Crafty Little Things to Sew Giveaway!

Crafty Little Things to Sew Giveaway!

Hi all!  I am so pleased and honored to be part of Caroline’s new book, Crafty Little Things to Sew.  YAY!  Caroline is amazing- from her beautifully curated blog, Sew Can She, to her fabulous classes on Craftsy (I have tried both and love them!) to her adorable sewing patterns, she is really making waves in the sewing world! My contribution to the book is this really fun lunch box pattern.  The project is called the Lunch-in-a-Snap Tote on pages 89-93.  It is great for the working girls because you can fit your salad containers and leftovers (my favorite lunch!) as well as a sandwich, pretzels, fruit, etc.  Plus, it is so cute I made another version so I could re visit the project.  Book publishing is a long process and I created this a few years ago.  Yup, I still love it and I think you will too 🙂 . Here is the version I made today… So fun!  The fabrics are from Joann Fabrics- they are the Cloud 9 organics line.  So pretty, right? Be sure to check out some of the other contributors to the book who are blogging about their projects too!   The great news for YOU is that I have a copy of the book to giveaway!  This book has 20 clever, simple and fun projects designed by Caroline herself and 8 other designers (9 including me!).  Here is a sampling below…So, to enter to win, leave a comment below and tell me a crafty sewing project you have made recently.  I am always looking for good ideas.  I can’t wait to hear your comments.  The giveaway will be open until Friday October 27th.  I will randomly choose a winner and send the book your way! THE GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED.  #25, Mona was the winner!  Thank you all for participating...

Classic Bowling Bag in Coral with Tassels

Classic Bowling Bag in Coral with Tassels

Although I set out to make this Classic Bowling Bag sewing Pattern in black, I just couldn’t make myself do it.  I like a soft black leather bag from the department store, but if I am going to sew it, it has to be BRIGHT.  I am so glad I chose this gorgeous coral!  I love how it turned out with the buttery yellow thread. I made the tassels from some up cycled suede and used a saved pice of jewelry from a broken necklace for the brooch.  Have you tried making your tassels yet?  I used this ebook but there are also lots of free tutorials on pinterest. Only one more day to get this fabulous new Classic Bowling Bag sewing pattern for only $5!  After March 16th 2017, it will go up to regular price.  I love how versatile and fun this bag is to make!  Now I just have to decide which one I am going to start carrying around! Don’t forget the giveaway happening too!  For just purchasing the pattern before 3/17/2017, you are entered to WIN!...

The Jedi Penguins! Another chance to enter the giveaway

The Jedi Penguins! Another chance to enter the giveaway

Do you all see the Penguins made by Amanda of Jedi Craft Girl last friday?  Love them!   Thank you so much to Amanda for participating in the Gingercake Holiday Gifts Sewing Series.  You can read more about her cute penguin pair by visiting the Jedi Craft Girl Blog.  She made these gifts using the very popular Annie’s Penguin Pillow Pattern. I have never tried to use minky before at the belly but it looks so soft!  She used a basting spray to keep it from shifting all around.  Very clever! I have made many many penguins myself over the years.  Including the Valentine penguin that is my favorite!  You can visit that blog post here.  It is a free upgrade tutorial! Back in 2013 when I did this gifts series before, 4 bloggers sewed up penguins to give as gifts.  They were all so cute!  First is Caila’s from CailaMade... My good friend Amy (in real life!) of Mindfully Made Studios sewed a cute penguin too.  She made her penguins from fleece- again as a baby gift for a brand new niece… Next, the talented Jenny of the Southern Institute had her daughter Abby sew up the Annie’s Penguin Pattern as her first project.  WOW!  awesome job Abby!  This girl has a future in sewing!   My last penguin to share was sewn by Jess of If Only They Would Nap.  She always brings a fresh eye to sewing projects.  Jess also has 4 boys and sews for them all the time!  That is an accomplishment.  I love the boy spin on this guy below. Now that we have walked down penguin memory lane (and I feel so grateful to my blogging friends for sharing their projects!), I don’t want you to forget about the Week 3 giveaway happening!  Just click below to enter.  It is so easy! a Rafflecopter...

Gingercake’s Gifty Frames and Free Printables!

Gingercake’s Gifty Frames and Free Printables!

This is my stop on my own Gingercake Holiday Gifts Sewing Series!  I knew immediately that I wanted to share the Quilted Fabric Frame pattern!  It is my new favorite gift to give 🙂 When I created the new frame pattern this past summer, my oldest was immediately smitten.  She is into decorating her room and accessorizing (like many 12 year olds I know!).  Giving a frame can be a little tricky since you either need to have a photo already in it or it feels kinda half finished if you give it empty.  Instead of gathering photos (since you know, at this age, she is going to want to put her friends in there), I decided to make some cute quote printables instead.  Problem solved and I get to pass on my not so subtle Mom messages too 🙂 I used Art Gallery Fabric that I purchased from one of my favorite etsy fabric shops- Llama fabrics.  They have a fantastic selection, Chio always refunds shipping overages, AND it is shipped so fast!   I love how these fabrics from different collections still coordinate.  Another amazing thing about Art Gallery! I also think these will be great to sell at a craft show with the quotes.  That way, people can give them away as a finished gift and the person receiving the frame can either use it with the quote or replace it with a photo.  YAY! I decided to use the binding option for these frames so that they have a gallery type look.  But this pattern also has options of tabs and not binding as a finish.  It is very versatile! I made the quotes into PDFs that you can be downloaded and printed by YOU!  I created these on the canva website. Have you tried Canva yet?  It is an amazing and easy resource for creating graphics.  I highly recommend trying it out! create-sunshine desire-to-create-card grateful-heart stayhumble throw-kindness These quotes are sized to be 5” x 7” since that is the basic size of the frame.  But you can easily adjust their size on your printer to be larger or smaller.  You are welcome to use these but please to do claim them as your own. I can’t wait to give these to my daughter!  One more thing- the pattern calls for using plexiglass which is really nice if you have some handy.  I previously had a sheet of it cut at the home improvement store into 5” x 7” pieces and it worked great.  But for this project, I bought $1 frames from the dollar store and used their glass!  An easy solution for sure except that the glass is fragile. PLUS, if you use a nice card stock to print your quote,...

It may be only 10 degrees outside but today we are going to chat about those feathered darlings who come to visit us in the spring.  BIRDS BIRDS BIRDS.  Last winter I spent day after day creating these fun and clever projects from my huge (i may have a problem) stash of scrap fabrics.  And this winter, I get to share my new book with YOU! Just for You! My Selfish Sewing Venna Bag and a Book Giveaway!

Just for You! My Selfish Sewing Venna Bag and a Book Giveaway!

CHANCE TO WIN A COPY OF THE BOOK!  Read through and leave a comment at the end for your chance to win 🙂 Sweet!  Today I am the “Sewlebrity Sewist” for Caroline and Sarah’s fantastic new book, Just for YOU: Selfish Sewing Projects from Your Favorite Sew Can She Bloggers.  This book is full of special and creative projects by some wonderful designers that are part of the Sew Can She Community.  Check it out!   I chose to make the lovely Venna Tote by Sarah Markos.  I love making bags since I always learn something new and it feels really great to make something for myself.   This bag was well designed and has plenty of room.  The fun box pleats and the belt make it extra special without having the pattern become too complicated.    I really liked being able to spend just a few hours on this bag but to come out with something really pretty and useful.  Below is Sarah and Caroline’s version…   I admit that I made 2 versions of this bag and the first one was a flop.  I used a big bold Ikea print that I have had for a few years and it ended up looking clownish.  Sometimes trying to make a statement turns out not so good…  but then I started again and used my favorite painters canvas and some bright Cotton and Steel prints and it came together so much better.  I have been really into tassels lately too, so I had to add my favoite tassels and beads to give my bag a little extra kick.   I also made a tie instead of the rosette which was an easy adjustment.  I like the tie a lot (and I have never been able to make a good rosettes!  This would have been a good opportunity to get better but opportunity knocked and I chose not to listen-ha!)   It is -2 degrees here today and this bag makes me so happy thinking of warmer weather!  I can’t wait to use it wearing short sleeves and a long skirt.  It gives me hope!  Doesn’t it remind you of warm days too?  I feel so jealous of the book photos in that beautiful weather!  This book has fabulous photography, by the way, all done by Caroline and Sarah themselves! Now are you ready for your chance to win a copy of the book?  Tell me what was the last selfish sewing project YOU made for yourself.   Was it a bag?  Perhaps a dress?  An apron?  Guess what?  All those projects are in this book!!  I can’t wait to try out more!  Be sure to visit the Amazon page to see a...
