With that title I am referring to all our non sewing friends. My friend had a baby girl and I was so excited when I heard the news that I went up to my sewing room and made this…
I already made her a handmade gift for her shower and I know she liked it but this is my concern~since most of my friends have never sewn and work full time jobs and spend their free time shopping at the mall or driving their kids to soccer (gymnastics, piano lessons, zoo camp, etc), they seem baffled that I have the time and interest to whip up some handmade item. I know they appreciate the gift but I wonder is this gift really for me so that I try something new? Is this even a valued gift to my friend who is awesome but who also might enjoy baby clothes from Old Navy just as much? Hmmmmm. Well, she's getting the outfit anyway.
This fabric is a vintage pillowcase that I bought at an estate sale or thrift store. The fabric is cotton though and not the soft poly blend that so many vintage pillow cases are. I made the diaper cover from this tutorial by MADE. The pattern for the baby kimono top if from a vintage Simplicity 3043 pattern.
I googled it to see if there was any info about the pattern and I guess it is from 1949. Cool huh? Vintage all over the place! Groovy. I would love to make those gowns some time. So pretty! It was very easy to follow. I know there are tons of Kimono free patterns out there like this if you want to try one. Here is one last picture of it on a perfect baby sized baby doll. Disregard all the marker all over this baby. She has been played with ALOT.
Do any of you sewers ever feel a little hesitant about giving your handmade items or am I just being insecure?
