Have you all been looking over at Vanessa's blog to see the Dress A Girl Around the World happenings? Yesterday she gave a tutorial for how to make a dress from a pillowcase and from your own fabric. Today, Anna from Noodlehead made a guest post about pillowcase dresses in knits! Great idea for a twist on the traditional dress.
Here is my first dress~
The first time I saw pillowcase dresses was when My big girl was about 2. My sister and I were together on vacation at Rosemary Beach FL. There was an art show happening and a girl had a whole booth full of pillowcase dresses. ALL from vintage pillowcases. They were all so soft and beautiful. I love collecting vintage linens even though I don't sew with them very much. I am going to dive into that stash this week finally!
I always find baggies of notions at the thrift store. I am really happy when I find cute rick rack in there. This seam binding is always in there too and now I finally found a use for it! It was a cute and fast way to bind the arm holes and then have a pretty tie. I zig zagged one side, folded it over and zig zagged again on the other side too.
I used some of that thrift store baggie rick rack for the pocket. A perfect match!
I felt like the pocket made it a little extra special, don't you think? More on pockets on Friday!
Now I'm going to go upload to the Dress a Girl Around the World Flickr pool! This dress took me about 40 minutes. The rest of sewing today was TERRIBLE and this made me feel so much better. The thought of some little girl somewhere getting this dress and feeling beautiful is so sweet. Hope you have time to make one too!
