My sister lives in Colombus, GA and asked me to make her some teacher gifts like the ones I made for the AnnKelle fabric.  When I asked what fabrics she wanted, she said "you know, preppy.  Everybody here is really preppy."  I wouldn't call where I live now preppy, but I knew exactly what she meant growing up down south.  For this blog post I thought it would be fun to look up the definition of preppy.  Little did I know there was a difference between preppy & southern preppy.  Take a moment to read those if you are interested in learning more about what it means to be preppy.  Funny stuff!  Who wrote those definitions?  What do you think southern friends?  That definition is pretty much exactly like many people I knew down south.  My family was not totally "preppy" (like many people I knew!) but I wonder how much all the preppiness around me influenced my style.  For any readers who are not from the USA, sorry for all the talk about this typical american stereotype! 

I made 3 of these patchwork notebooks above and one from an amy butler FQ that I had around.  The patchwork is typical preppy pink & green.  The one below has the look of vera bradley happening so I thought it could be acceptable for the look we are trying to achieve.  

I made these using the notebook slipcover pattern again.  I am using these great notebooks from Staples.  I added about .5" to the width on each side to account for the thickness of the notebook.  The patchwork fabrics are from JoAnns and I used Amy's favorite osnaburg for the linen look.  I used 6 pieces that measure 3"x4" to make the patchwork cover and I liked how nicely they turned out.  The TEACHER coupon is still good in the shop for 40% off this pattern if you want to make some yourself!  

So, even though I didn't include any grossgrain ribbon bows or monogramming, I think we achieved our look.  Hope you like your them teachers in Colombus GA!
