The girls are now both in school all day. When my oldest began Kindergarten it was so emotional for me- she was so nervous and so vulnerable and I was afraid of letting her go. This morning was a different story. We rushed around (turns out getting 2 kids ready for school takes more time than just one!) and I grabbed my camera but by the time we got out the door the bus was coming down the road! What I imagined as a big tearful parting was a run down the drive way and a quick picture as my girls got on the bus. Not even a hug or a look back!
They didn't want me to make them backpacks and they choose their own clothes. I find myself pushing my own expectations on them for these types of milestones and I am learning to resist the temptation. Oh, you want to wear your old snoopy tee shirt? Fine. Oh, OK, you want to wear that hand me down dress? Great. You want to choose a BLACK book bag from target and you don't want me to spend hours making you something special? No problem. Here she is modeling the book bag. It is pretty cute…
I did manage to squeeze a few handmade items into the new school year…
A pencil case to match her new book bag.
I followed a tutorial!! I made the pencil bag from this tutorial. Cute! Learned some new tricks too. I liked how it was kinda like a puzzle that all came together in the end.
Elsie wanted a lunch box that was from the new pattern and she choose her own fabric. It's not my favorite bag since the fabric seems so busy, but she is REALLY proud of it and I like that for sure.
Anne choose this lunch box from my shelves in the sewing room. I kept saying "lets look at the fabrics and I will make something special for you!" She just said "Nope. I just want that one."
She does have good taste though since that is one cute lunch box.
Now it's just me and my boy together all day. It was a quiet day without them and then, suddenly they were home again with lots of happy stories and some tears from being overly tired. We had our regular evening routine and the day was over before we knew it! A very undramatic beginning to the school year.
