My big girl (6 today) loves drawing and all things art. I don't remember having this interest as a child but I love seeing her get so excited about her coloring. She gets so absorbed and creates such fun pictures. She wants to sew and so here is our first attempt.
Way back i found these embroidery hoops at Michaels on clearance. I have since seen them at thrift stores (obsession!) for about .25! I put a piece of burlap in there. She drew a simple flower on a piece of paper for practice. Then drew on the burlap something similar with some chalk.
Next we took a long piece of embroidery floss, strung through a dull needle and the two ends tied together in a knot so the needle wouldn't slip off. This was huge because before when we attempted I had to keep putting the needle back on over and over and I got annoyed. Must avoid annoyance when helping kids learn stuff!!!
Next she went to town sewing around her chalk outline. I had to do minimal intervention when big knots were made and the back is a bit of a mess but I think it turned out cute! I sewed up crayon folios while she worked and only had to stop every 15 minutes or so to give her a new color. I think we will attempt a picture of this for a fathers day gift. The moto, not the chocolate spoons!
